A poor maize patch should leave more than a memory. Before the next crop, record where the problem appeared, the crop stage and whether roots, stalks or ears were involved. A useful field history helps separate a recurring disease concern from a one-off event.
Was one maize block weaker last season? Use that history before you plant again. A practical maize guide from HumiBakt Africa.

Fusarium is a group of fungi, not one single maize symptom. The HumiBakt technical register includes Fusarium in maize, but a weak stand alone does not identify the organism. Ask for a diagnosis where possible and record the level of certainty beside the field observation.
Build a short history for each block: previous crops, known problems, seed used, planting conditions and harvest observations. Do not combine root symptoms and ear symptoms into a single score. They raise different questions and may need different follow-up.
Three actions for your next field discussion
1. Map the affected block before preparing the next crop.
2. Separate confirmed diagnoses from suspected causes in your notes.
3. Discuss seed choice, soil conditions and the planned comparison with your adviser.
Where HumiBakt fits
HumiBakt helps suppress Fusarium pressure. Its beneficial microorganisms compete with undesirable microorganisms and support the plant’s natural defence mechanisms.
This disease-specific statement comes from HumiBakt’s Zambia seed-material technical document, page 2. It is product technical information, not a mapped Kenya field trial or a guarantee of the result on your farm.
HumiBakt is a microbiological soil fertiliser, not a plant protection product. Follow the current pack instructions and use it within a locally appropriate crop programme. Outcomes depend on the crop, field conditions and application.

Questions from farmers
Does Fusarium pressure mean grain toxins have been removed by HumiBakt?
No. This series makes no claim that HumiBakt removes mycotoxins. Grain suitability requires the appropriate assessment and testing.
